Letter from the editor

One only has to read the news, scan the bookstore shelves or even turn on reality TV to find a story about health, nutrition or fitness. Companies are paying attention to these important topics as well. In this issue of Impact, we learn how companies are inspiring healthy lifestyles and keeping energy high by investing in cultural and physical adjustments to the workplace. Some companies are adopting nutritional eating guidelines, while others focus on ergonomic assessments or provide individual control of lighting and temperature. These healthy changes can be tied directly to office design — and to increased profits.

Also in this issue, we explore the emerging trend of glass wall systems, which help companies balance increasingly popular open-concept environments with private office space while maximizing natural light. In Design Talk, Callison, a Seattle-based global architecture and design firm, shows how designers are stepping up to the challenge of a tough economy by bringing creative and cost-effective solutions to clients.

Impact relies on real experiences and insights to offer dynamic, trend-driven content to its readers. Share your perspective, expertise or observations with me at SamanthaSwick@OMWorkspace.com.
